The quick Three-Minute Settling Test

For a LAKOS separator to operate properly, the solids to be separated must have a specific gravity higher than 1½ times that of the liquid. The greater the specific gravity of the solids and the lower the viscosity, the more effectively the separator will function. In virtually all applications, if the solids settle in the fluid within three-to-four minutes, a LAKOS separator from John Brooks Company can easily separate them.

LAKOS offers a quick Three-Minute Settling Test for customers to determine whether one of its separators is compatible with a specific application:

• Get a sample of the solids coming through the water system – from the water heater, toilet tank, or a plugged cartridge or screen filter;
• Add the solids to a jar of clean water and shake the jar to mix the solids and water fully;
• Let the mixture stand. A LAKOS pump protection sand separator can remove particles that settle to the bottom within two-to-three minutes; a LAKOS sand separator installed after the pump can remove particles that settle within three-to-four minutes.

Three series of LAKOS separators are available: eJPX high-efficiency separators; JPX-JPL standard-efficiency separators; and PRX systems. The eJPX is a higher-efficiency upgrade of the JPX that removes up to 98 per cent of solids measuring 44 microns or more in one pass. It is the perfect option for industrial and commercial applications that require finer solids filtration. The JPX-JPL line boosts process efficiency, lowers maintenance, and reduces energy costs in many commercial applications. PRX systems are complete separation and purging solutions, blending JPX models with purging and electrical control options.
