L. & M. multi-station and multi-spindle machines save customer costs

L. & M. owns a broad range of machining equipment.

As the largest screw-machine jobbing shop in the country, L. & M. Precision Products Inc. has been in business successfully for almost 60 years. A major reason for the company’s longtime success is the variety of equipment and its capabilities. Among the facility’s equipment are numerous multi-station and multi-spindle machines.

The L. & M. crew operates more than 70 first-operation automatic screw machines in its Toronto plant, and the multi-station and multi-spindle equipment enhances the company’s versatility in manufacturing precision-machined components with high efficiency.

L. & M. Precision Products owns several multi-station transfer machines that can achieve cost-saving cycle times for complex components that would typically need more than one operation on other machinery in medium and large production runs. These parts are usually made complete with exceptional quality and consistency. The multi-station equipment at the L. & M. facility are both 12- and 16-station Hydromats. As of this writing, the company owns five Hydromat machines with 12-station capability, as well as a Hydromat machine with 16-station capability.

In addition to this equipment, L. & M. owns more than 30 Davenport and Wickman multi-spindle machines. These machines can make medium- and large-volume production with extremely precise results of high quality. The exceptional cycle times enable high cost savings, as opposed to some parts that would typically be produced on CNC machines.

As of this writing, the L. & M. plant contains 16 Davenport five-spindle automatic screw machines, as well as 16 Wickman six-spindle automatic screw machines. Much of this equipment can handle a capacity of up to 1¾ inches. Some of these multi-spindle machines have Cucchi Bar loaders on them too.

This is far from the full range of equipment that the company operates, of course. L. & M. also uses more than a dozen Brown & Sharpe single-spindle machines and nearly 20 CNC and Swiss-style production machines in its processes. In addition, the company has a complete secondary-operations department that can handle machining, milling, assembly, drilling, tapping, broaching, centreless and plunge grinding, thread rolling, and more.
