L. & M. celebrates 55 years of success

L. & M. Precision Products is celebrating 55 years in business this year. Over the last five decades, the Toronto-based shop has earned a solid reputation as a top-tier producer of precision-machined products and machined components. But its past and present growth and success would not be possible without the company’s expert team and its commitment to quality.

L. & M. through the years

L. & M. Precision Products was founded in 1962 by Ralph E. Lake and Mike Mahoney. Originally named L. & M. Screw Machine Products Ltd, the company changed its name to L. & M. Precision Products in 2000 to better reflect the nature of its products.

When it was first launched in Toronto at 66 Milvan Drive, it employed 20 people. However, the company continuously expanded its capabilities, machines and employees, which resulted in a move to a larger facility just down the road at 130 Milvan Drive in 1977. That building held the company for 20-plus years, until it needed more space yet again due to its continued growth. In 2000, L. & M. moved into its current location at 150 Milvan Drive. To accommodate the growing company, three separate buildings were renovated to make up one 50,000-square-foot fully structured precision production facility. Today, this facility houses the current staff of 60-plus employees, more than 70 first-operation screw machines, secondary operations, quality assurance, shipping, and storage equipment and operations.

A commitment to quality

This growth is in large part due to the company’s team of committed employees who are dedicated to quality. L. & M. Precision Products is an employee-owned, non-union shop with licensed professional engineering support and comprehensive quality assurance practices and standards.

The company has been ISO registered since 1997, and uses a mixture of automated and manual processes to ensure continued quality. Gauges and other measurement equipment are calibrated to standard schedules, and they are well maintained to ensure that product quality is met.
