Kremlin mixing system offers customer major solvent and labour savings

CRM, a supplier of high-quality coating and finishing services, had a huge problem that was affecting its bottom line. The 2K system it was using in its finishing process was causing extensive downtime and solvent waste, which also resulted in additional labour costs.

CRM was promised that the system would deliver a quick colour change, be easy to set up, and could work with a robotic system in the future. Seven months after installation, it still hadn’t delivered on its promises. 

“The system was not user friendly, it was laden with problems from day one, and the problems were never fixed,” explains Mark Ray, president of CRM, adding that there were gallons of wasted paint and solvent. The company consumed a 55-gallon drum of MEK every two weeks with this system. 

One particular project the company was working on involved finishing gear boxes for a special contracted project. A high-quality finish with excellent colour match was required by the end user, and the 2K system just wasn’t meeting the company’s needs. 

CRM was referred to Exel North America by a supplier familiar with the company’s Kremlin Cyclomix Micro system. One of the features that attracted CRM to Exel is the company’s popular “Spray Before You Pay” program, which allowed CRM to prove the functionality of the Kremlin system prior to investing in it. 

Once CRM tried the Kremlin 2K Cyclomix Micro system, it was impressed. The system worked from day one. 

“The 2K Cyclomix Micro system is reliable, repeatable, saves on coating costs, and works,” says Ray. 

Since installation of one Cyclomix Micro 1+1 with catalyst flush, one Flowmax 04:120 pump, two 10:14 pumps, and one Spraymium with LP applicator, CRM has experienced 25 to 50 per cent savings in labour costs. There is no more wasted downtime, and the company uses less than two quarts of solvent each day — a huge savings in MEK for CRM.
