waste pit

A customer found the perfect waste-pit solution from John Brooks Company.

With its unmatched inventory of fluid-handling equipment, along with their application expertise, John Brooks Company Limited has achieved a long history of customer success stories. This example: a client that was expanding its plant and needed a new installation was looking for a waste pit pumping package – with self-priming “high and dry” units.

As usual, John Brooks Company came up with the perfect solution for this challenge, one that offered easy maintenance and cleaning.

Complete with Eradicator system

This customer wanted a waste pit pumping package that staff could easily clean in the event of a blockage. The new pumps also had to handle occasional feathers and solids. So the John Brooks Company team put its application expert to work, examining consultants’ drawings and selecting pumps that were appropriate.

The request was specifically for a duplex Gorman-Rupp package, so the application expert recommended the Super T-Series of self-priming centrifugal pumps with the Eradicator option installed. This series has a large volute design that allows automatic re-priming in a fully open system, with no suction or discharge check valves required. The Super T-Series can handle capacities as high as 214½ litres per second and heads of up to 45 metres. The pumps are available in discharge sizes of three, four, six, eight, and ten inches, as well as a Super size. Unlike most submersible pumps, this series can use standard off-the-shelf motors rather than expensive proprietary ones.

The Eradicator system has an aggressive, self-cleaning wear plate that incorporates many grooves and notches, as well as a patent-pending lacerating tooth to help break up stringy material and pass them through the pump without diminishing performance or interrupting service. A special back cover has a patented lightweight inspection cover, which can be removed easily for impeller inspection. This design substantially decreases clogging and downtime.

After the company installed this waste pit pumping package, it yielded such benefits as lower service and maintenance expenses and overall cost savings. The Super T-Series allows the client to achieve pump maintenance and inspections without pulling the pumps from the wet well.
