Another customer success for John Brooks Company

Among the many customer success stories in John Brooks Company Limited’s history, the firm once helped a specialty chemical manufacturer with a filtering application for calcium sulfonate grease. The recommended solution, an EATON DCF 1600 mechanically cleaned filter, offered numerous benefits for the customer: it eliminated media replacement, reduced labour and maintenance costs, boosted consistency in solids removal, decreased product loss, and raised production of a better, cleaner product.

More efficiency, less downtime

A global developer of chemicals used in many industries, the customer wanted to improve its filtration process to optimize efficiency, reduce downtime, make maintenance easier, and lower product waste. The company usually used manual filtration for grease, using bag housing and polyester multi-filament bags rated for 600 micrometres. But this required ample maintenance, which affected productivity. Bags often could not handle high back pressure, resulting in damaged bags, dirty products bypassing the filtration housing, and equipment damage.

John Brooks Company recommended the EATON DCF Filter as a way of eliminating manual filtration, achieving finer filtering, lowering waste, eliminating bag disposal, and reducing labour. In addition, the John Brooks Company team, after realizing that the highly viscous grease took a long time to pass through the two-inch pipe into the housing, switched the piping to a three-inch alternative for quicker operation. When the client reported a plugging issue resulting from cooling and thickening grease, the filtration application expert recommended a steam jacketed housing, as the steam circulating through the jacket around the filter housing would maintain the high temperature inside and stop the grease from thickening. Once installed, the customer immediately saw a cleaner final product downstream, reduced maintenance, and eliminated bag disposal for less waste. John Brooks Company impressed the operations manager with its service, expertise in filtration, and competence in solving the issue.
