Another problem solved by John Brooks Company application experts

With its unsurpassed variety of fluid-handling solutions, John Brooks Company Limited has earned a long track record of success stories. One customer had an outdated chem shack in its oil refinery and required an upgrade to solve two ongoing issues – manual chemical mixing, and level control/spill containment. With a chemical metering system featuring Pulsafeeder PulsaPro pumps, John Brooks Company boosted both quality control and operator safety.

Higher levels of metering accuracy

The customer was using a manual chemical-mixing process with hazardous demulsifiers and fuel additives. Achieving precision and consistency between batches was challenging, especially if operators were called away mid-process. Without level control or operators present, mixing tanks could overflow and spill chemicals. Not only was this unsafe; it also resulted in downtime, wasted chemicals, and reduced product quality.

A solution was required, so the company held discussions with the John Brooks Company pump application and engineering team. The supplier recommended a chemical metering system with three separate hydraulically balanced diaphragm metering pump skids, using Pulsafeeder’s PulsaPro API 675 compliant pumps. These units met all relevant petrochemical- and gas-sector requirements and had unparalleled reliability and safety with leak detection.

Each of these diaphragm metering pumps offers a flow of up to 1,022 litres per hours, a pressure of up to 5,100 pounds per square inch, and a viscosity up to 1,000 centipoise. It has a steady-state accuracy of plus or minus ½ per cent of set point and repeatability of plus or minus ½ per cent of rated capacity. They can handle liquid temperatures from -23 to 135 degrees Celsius.

The customer installed this chemical metering system and saw instant benefits, including substantially higher quality control, operator safety, metering accuracy, and repeatability. Since installing this solution, the company has experienced no chemical spills or operating exposure, plus lower batch creation time, higher cost savings, less chemical waste, and better productivity.
