A rental company for industrial equipment recently turned to ELS when it needed help with lifting and moving equipment for repair.

A forklift replacement

The rental company had a workshop for servicing returned equipment. It wanted to upgrade its system for lifting equipment while employees worked underneath. To lift a motor or component sub-assembly, the workshop employees had been using a forklift as a temporary mounting point for a manual chain fall. But the company found this method inadequate and unsafe, and it needed a better solution. What the workers required was a permanent overhead lifting system that would make repair jobs not only easier and quicker, but also safer.

ELS was tasked with choosing a crane that would suit the application, but also fit into the workshop’s limited space. It was not an easy solution. The team assessed a Gorbel freestanding work station crane, which was strong enough, but took too much space and interfered with other tasks. Next, ELS looked at a Gorbel ceiling-mounted crane. But this crane was not strong enough to hold the standard load, and the workshop ceiling was too high for it to be effective.

ELS determined the most suitable crane for the job was a Gorbel FS300 Jib Crane. Not only did this system fit into the workshop easily, without taking up too much space; it was also strong enough to handle up to five tonnes.
