The HARTING ix Industrial mating face

HARTING Canada has been the leading connectivity innovator in the world for decades – and it has recently reached a new milestone. The latest PROFINET User Organization (PNO) guideline, PROFINET Cabling and Interconnection Technology – Guideline for PROFINET Version 5.0, identifies HARTING’s ix Industrial mating face as a new standard for Ethernet applications.

Published on June 29 of last year, the most recent PNO guideline offers a reliable set of rules to PROFINET users for appropriate cabling in industrial equipment, systems, and facilities.

More compact, robust solution

ix Industrial has been deemed a substantially more compact, robust Ethernet interface solution than previous RJ45 connectors were, paving a path towards a miniaturized future. This mating face for Ethernet transmission represents a major component in the SPC “Specific Passive Components” section of the guide.

Manufacturers of PROFINET-compliant equipment can now develop more compact devices more securely and reliably, saving valuable installation space in control cabinets. Since ix Industrial is 70 per cent smaller than past RJ45 connectors were, the number of ports can be doubled for one device size, or companies can design devices that are much more compact. As well as miniaturization and space savings, this HARTING interface provides a high-performance, reliable, and industrial-grade connector for both device manufacturers and users – equipping them for future technology.

Among the core properties of the ix Industrial: 5,000 mating cycles; a robust metallic lock; THR shield contacts; 360-degree shielding; transmission of up to ten gigabits; PoE and PoE+; and a 70 per cent smaller device socket. Benefits for PROFINET users and manufacturers:

  • Reliable contact, in case of shock and vibration
  • Fewer contact interruptions
  • Acoustic feedback during insertion signals’ secure locking
  • Easy, convenient handling that excludes inadvertent loosening
  • New miniaturization options
  • Secure transmission

Users can choose between straight or angled cable outlets, depending on the application. So even tight spaces in control cabinets present no problems. Catering to challenging environments, the ix Industrial will be available in IP65/67-protected PushPull housings starting this fall.

Established measurement-technology manufacturers in the industry reliably support the ix Industrial standard with a broad variety of measuring technology.
