The ECOM Cube 800 intrinsically safe wearable camera, available from PIC

Process Instruments and Components Inc. (PIC) supplies the best industrial equipment for hazardous locations in Canada, including products by the ECOM division of Pepperl+Fuchs. One of ECOM’s latest developments is the Cube 800 intrinsically safe wearable camera. This innovative device is designed for safe operation in Ex-certified and rugged environments.

With its multi-purpose design and its integrated thermal imaging, the Cube 800 brings hands-free collaboration to employees in the world’s toughest work environments.

Optical and thermal modes

The Cube 800 contains a dual camera that allows users to select between optical and thermal modes; the integrated thermal-imaging mode offers infrastructure health analysis and trending information, while the optical mode provides high-definition video and images. The integrated light ring and laser aiming pointer result in high-quality visuals. Its magnetic auto-latch mount makes it easy and secure to attach this wearable camera to hardhat and headband accessories, and operators can take pictures in difficult-to-reach places with its hands-free, handheld, and monopod use.

This instrument can be used to share live video or images during Onsight collaboration sessions or offline to capture images and recordings and store them securely on-board. Remote Onsight participants can control camera settings like lighting, zoom, and camera modes, while remove control ensure a fully hands-free experience. The Cube 800 now has a body-heat mode too, for temperature screenings and non-contact temperature measurements by groups or individuals. Businesses can monitor plants, production lines, and critical infrastructures for heat sources, as well as check people for increased body temperature. Relative temperature differences within plus or minus 0.625 degrees Celsius can be observed.

Another advantage of the Cube 800 is its efficient cooperation with the Smart-Ex 02 and other mobile devices. Technical specifications of this wearable camera from PIC:

  • operating ambient temperatures: -20 to 55 degrees Celsius for the optical mode, and -10 to 55 degrees Celsius for the thermal-imaging mode;
  • rechargeable 2200 mAh Li-ion battery;
  • 13-MP camera, or 3x digital zoom;
  • 48 gigabytes of on-board storage;
  • IP64 rating; and
  • ability to withstand a six-foot drop to concrete at a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius.
