The ECOM Cube 800 intrinsically safe camera

Pepperl+Fuchs is a major manufacturer of equipment for hazardous locations, and its products are available via Process Instruments and Components Inc. (PIC). The manufacturer’s ECOM division offers the Cube 800 intrinsically safe camera – an innovative, wearable device designed for safe operation in Ex-certified and rugged environments. Among this camera’s advantages are multi-purpose design, integrated thermal imaging, and a unique hands-free collaboration to workers in the most challenging work environments.

Attachable to hardhats, headbands

The Cube 800 intrinsically safe camera contains a dual camera that enables selection between optical and thermal modes. The integrated thermal-imaging mode provides infrastructure health analysis and trending data, while the optical mode offers high-definition video and images. The integrated light ring and laser aiming pointer result in high-quality visuals. The magnetic auto-latch mount makes it easy and secure to attach this device to hardhat and headband accessories, and pictures can be taken in hard-to-reach places with hands-free, handheld, and monopod use.

Workers can use this wearable camera to share live video or images during Onsight collaboration sessions or offline to capture images and recordings and store them securely on-board. Remote Onsight participants can control lighting, zoom, camera modes, and other settings, while removing control to ensure a completely hands-free experience.

ECOM has recently added a body-heat mode for temperature screenings and non-contact temperature measurements by individuals or groups. Users can monitor plants, production lines, and critical infrastructures for heat sources or check people for higher body temperature. They can also observe relative temperature differences within plus or minus 0.625 degrees Celsius. Another benefit: efficient cooperation with the Smart-Ex 02 and other mobile devices.

Among the technical specifications of this wearable, intrinsically safe camera from PIC:

  • 13-MP camera, or 3x digital zoom;
  • 48 gigabytes of on-board storage;
  • ability to withstand a six-foot drop to concrete at a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius;
  • IP64 rating;
  • operating ambient temperatures ranging from -20 to 55 degrees Celsius for the optical mode, and from -10 to 55 degrees Celsius for the thermal-imaging mode; and
  • rechargeable 2200 mAh Li-ion battery.
