The BTC01 thin client by Pepperl+Fuchs

Process Instruments and Components Inc. (PIC) is Canada’s source for Pepperl+Fuchs solutions designed for hazardous work environments. One powerful device that Pepperl+Fuchs manufactures for modular virtualized HMI systems is the unique BTC01 standalone industrial thin client. An industrial-grade product, the BTC01 is robust, reliable, and easy to use. It offers many considerable user benefits, including its energy-efficient fanless design, its dual NIC cards, and its high levels of performance and security.

Creating a virtual desktop infrastructure

What is a thin client? A stateless, fanless desktop terminal with no hard drive. This device allows the storage of applications, sensitive information, memory, and other features usually found on a desktop computer, all back in a data centre. An industrial thin client is typically used as PC replacement technology, allowing customers instant access to any virtual desktop or virtualized application. Thin clients are cost-efficient ways to create a virtual desktop infrastructure.

The BTC01 comes from PIC preloaded with RM Shell 4.0 or 5.0, Pepperl+Fuchs’ proprietary operating system, and ACO ThinManager-ready versions are available too. Incorporating VisuNet RM Shell software allows a user-friendly touchscreen optimized interface that simplifies integration, advanced security features, auto-connect and connection-loss features, and Windows Embedded Standard 7. This industrial thin client restricts users to predefined web addresses and runs up to four systems simultaneously.

Constructed on an aluminum chassis with a fanless design, the BTC01 has no internal moving parts and a safe operating temperature range, from -200 to 600 degrees Celsius. The device is designed to resist both shock and vibration, making it ideal for challenging work environments. Because of the instrument’s small, compact design – weighing less than eight pounds – the user can mount it to a wall, inside a cabinet, or on a desktop with almost no effort.

Fully customizable for any application, the BTC01 arrives to the customer ready to use right out of the package. Other key benefits of this unique instrument include an internal power supply for an AC or 24-volt DC input, support for as many as four monitors, and an option for Class 1, Division 2 hazardous locations.
