The Rosta Type AV industrial oscillating mounting

Rosta Inc. makes high-end machine elements that work in many industries, with its mastery of three kinds of technology: rubber suspensions, oscillating conveyors, and tensioning. A popular solution is the Type AV industrial oscillating mounting. This is a maintenance-free elastic joint that guides the circular motions of hanging screens, particularly gyratory sifters. Rosta recommends this mounting in the chemical, food-processing, and pulp and paper sectors; it works for any manufacturing facilities with hanging screens in their processes, like flour mills, paper mills, and chemical processing plants.

A larger rubber insert

One of the features that distinguish this mounting from other Rosta elements is the rubber insert, which is larger than the inserts in other components. With this insert, the Type AV absorbs the vibrations of hanging sifters more intensively, which protects ceilings and building structures more effectively. This industrial oscillating mounting usually has a cast aluminum housing, and they all have cores built out of aluminum profiles. Since 2014, Rosta has been manufacturing the Type AV with an inner square made of light metal profiles, although the older design is still available as a special element.

Customers across Canada and all over the world have yielded substantial benefits from the Type AV industrial oscillating mounting. SWECO, a screening-machine producer in Florence, KY, is a key example. This company invested in this mounting a number of years ago when it needed a new option for supporting screen boxes in its gyratory sifter. The company’s existing sifter had 5,500-kilogram screen boxes mounting on four truck drive shafts, which had resulted in insufficient lubrication and one-sided wear on the bearing bushings. Eight universal joints had to be replaced twice a year by SWECO employees; this wasted both time and production.

This maintenance was excessive, so SWECO turned to Rosta for a better alternative. Rosta recommended the Type AV; after SWECO applied these mountings, joint replacement became unnecessary, while assembly and re-levelling of sifting boxes was now quicker and simpler. Since the change, four SWECO gyratory sifters have undergone several years of constant operation with no sign of wear.
