The Banner S15C series of in-line converters

Banner Engineering solutions are available in Ontario and Eastern Canada from Advanced Motion & Controls Ltd., including the new S15C series of in-line converters. These devices make conversion of condition monitoring and process sensors easier, to enable initiatives for overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). These compact, plug-on modules fit seamlessly into factory applications to convert Modbus sensor information and analog sensor signals into digital IO-Link data: a boon to predictive maintenance and operational improvements.

Rugged housing for easy installation

These Banner converters are recommended for applications in which IO-Link systems are added to existing production lines or processes for OEE initiatives, or in which the digital value of an analog sensor must be communicated through IO-Link. Key examples include condition monitoring and remote monitoring.

The S15C series of in-line converters are ideal for workers who use IO-Link to enable OEE analytics, but have remote pockets in which critical equipment should be monitored continuously. These units from Advanced Motion & Controls can be used at the end of a Modbus communication line, closer to the IO-Link Master, so the 20-metre line constraint is not a factor. The converters simplify deployment of sensors to access information essential to OEE initiatives.

There are eight models of these in-line converters, including six Modbus-to-IO-Link converters that can be used with Banner Modbus sensors for vibration/temperature, temperature/humidity, ultrasonic tasks, measuring light curtains, and GPS. The others are analog sensor models that can convert DC signals (4-20 mA or zero to ten volts) to digital values and recast them as IO-Link data.

Another advantage: small, rugged housing for easy installation. The S15C series is designed to plug directly into sensors and begin functioning right away. The compact, 15-millimetre tubular design and M12 connectivity allows simple installation in tight, space-constrained deployments. Each converter also uses the same power supply that the sensor does, simplifying wiring. The over-moulded IP68 housing guarantees reliable performance, even in harsh industrial settings.
