in-house precision machining

Bergen Cable has its own shop for precision machining.

Bergen Cable has been a premier North American supplier of cable products for decades. But the company is more than a provider of products. Many traits distinguish it from its competition in the cable industry, such as in-house precision machining. Not only does the company offer traditional machining methods; it also uses current CNC machining technology.

A versatile machine shop

With in-house precision machining technology, Bergen Cable adds a unique edge to its custom cable fittings and hardware. This is possible with the company’s versatile machine shop, which allows the company to produce high-quality customized solutions with short lead times and reasonable pricing. Bergen works closely with reliable vendors for plating, heat treating, painting, testing, and other secondary processes. The team uses precision machining for many purposes, ranging from custom-machined end fittings to stand-alone components.

Three kinds of in-house precision machining services are available from Bergen Cable. One method is CNC Swiss screw machining. The company has five axis screw machines at its disposal, which enables it to produce a variety of components, ranging in diameter from miniature to two centimetres. Bergen recommends this process for creating components with small diameters and complex geometry while maintaining tight tolerance. These machines can accommodate small prototype quantities and volumes exceeding 100,000.

The second type is CNC turning. The Bergen Cable team can use the company’s CNC lathes to machine components up to 16 inches long and 14 inches in diameter. The lathes’ bar feeders can feed materials measuring up to 1¾ inches in diameter continuously, which results in nonstop high-volume production. In addition, part catchers and chip conveyors keep production going constantly, helping to reduce unnecessary downtime.

Last, Bergen’s machine shop includes high-speed vertical milling centres for CNC milling. These milling centres offer complete secondary machining operations for components that have already been machined on the CNC lathes and screw machines. Customers can also have stand-alone milled products made with this milling equipment.

From precision-machined components to lanyards, termination bands, and other types of cable and cable assemblies, Bergen has an impressive range of capabilities.
