Minimizing or removing drive pressure

A good accumulation conveyor helps material-handling operations minimize or remove drive pressure to accumulate items. This capability is essential for cartons queued or fed into the loading, sorting, strapping, palletizing, or staging processes of conveyance.

The two types of Hytrol industrial accumulating conveyor available from Norpak are the minimum-pressure accumulation conveyor and the zero-pressure accumulation conveyor. The minimum-pressure device offers sufficient drive pressure to the tread rollers so that items contact each other gently, as well as back pressure that imparts no less than two per cent of the total distributed load.

A key example of a minimum-pressure model is the Hytrol ACC, which accumulates products of similar sizes across short distances with minimal pressure accumulation. This works especially well in palletizing. Other Hytrol minimum-pressure accumulation conveyors include the ACZ and NSP.

Zero-pressure conveyors are recommended for applications that require accumulation without items contacting each other, such as with fragile goods. Sensors activate components that eliminate drive pressure in specific sections. Hytrol manufactures models that implement EZLogic technology, which streamlines the process of stopping and starting items in accumulation zones. This eliminates the hassle of sourcing an individual logic controller, while increasing throughput and reliability and reducing pressure buildup.

Hytrol offers the NBEZ all-electric zero-pressure accumulation conveyor, the world’s first conveyor of its kind, as well as the ABEZ and E24EZ, which are ideal for handling products of different sizes and weights – especially when these items need to be queued for sorting; other models are better for pallet handling.
