Wanner D35 pumps are strong, durable units.

John Brooks Company Limited has a long history of customer success stories. One example: a potash producer that was using unsatisfactory gear pumps, which could not handle the workload. This company needed its entire plant running at full capacity 24/7 to ensure maximum production, but this was hard on the equipment.

Tough pumps with consistent flow

Part of this production process involved coating ore in an iron oxide oil dye, which was very abrasive. This would wear out the gear pumps at critical moments; some pumps would wear out after filling only one rail car. This customer prioritized addressing any mechanical issues before every run or working through them when they arose, so they contacted an application expert with John Brooks Company.

John Brooks Company recommended replacing the gear pumps with Hydra-Cell D35 units. These pumps have a seal-less design and horizontal disk check valves that can handle some of the toughest abrasives, including this dye. They withstand non-ideal operating conditions and offer run-dry and self-priming capabilities – and they can handle solids in the emulsions up to 800 micrometres.

The D35 series can pump a full range of liquid viscosity, and the simple, compact design lowers initial investment and maintenance expenses, while their operational efficiencies help reduce energy costs. Other advantages: dry-run capabilities without damage or additional maintenance; ability to withstand the aggressive mill atmosphere; check valves that can handle iron oxide solids; a linear flow that exposes dye to minimal turbulence in the pump, cutting the risk of erosion of internal ports; minimal maintenance and downtime; and ease of repair.

The customer installed the new pumps and saw an immediate improvement in operations. The many benefits included no failures affecting the amount of potash produced and dyed, consistent flow, complete production runs with less maintenance, and cheaper replacement costs with fewer parts.
