belt-conveyor idlers

Continental offers two series of belt-conveyor idlers.

Continental Conveyor Ltd. manufactures several kinds of conveyor components, including two series of belt-conveyor idlers. The Series 30000 idlers are designed for continuous operation, high capacities, and heavy, abrasive materials in which lump size is limited by the width of the belt. To keep these components operating at the peak of their ability, Continental constructs them with many parts that fulfill their own important functions.

Self-cleaning inverted-angle cross member

Available in belt widths of up to 60 inches, Series 30000 idlers come in a broad range of variations, like flat-belt-carrying rubber cushion, training idlers, picking roll, and variable troughing idlers. Return belt idlers are available in rubber-tread, beater, and training types. Each of these belt-conveyor idlers is assembled with the following major parts:

  • heavy-gauge steel rolls, carefully checked for smooth running before installation;
  • sturdy oversized shafts, for maximum rigidity;
  • a non-jamming end bracket, for rigid support for heavy loads;
  • heavy-duty, deep-groove ball bearings with long-lasting seals;
  • a self-cleaning, inverted-angle cross member that stays clean; and
  • non-clogging centre brackets, die-formed to close tolerances.

All of the rolls are equipped with precision ball bearings, and a separate cartridge-type contact and labyrinth grease seal offers triple bearing protection with neoprene contact members and grease-filled clearances. The counterbored outer shell and stamped-end disc are swaged to perfect concentricity and constantly welded to form an airtight concentric unit. The Continental team fills the stamping cavity with grease before assembly, and its large diameter allows easy movement of grease to the bearings. Extended operational life results from the efficient grease-in, cartridge seal, and large reservoir of grease.

The through-shafts of these belt-conveyor idlers, each measuring 20 millimetres in diameter, are machined at both ends, and the bearings are factory-adjusted by press-fitting the cartridge seal and bearing into the roll-end disc. The inverted-angle base has slotted foot straps that allow simple, fast mounting and alignment. The formed steel brackets are jig-welded to the base to ensure roll alignment. The ribbed end brackets are contoured to offer a large clearance, so that spilled materials do not stall the rolls.
