Tsubaki recently satisfied a customer with a great solution from KabelSchlepp.

Tsubaki of Canada is known for its chains, but it also offers industrial cable carriers through its KabelSchlepp division. KabelSchlepp has a history of success stories, in which it found the perfect solutions for customers’ unique needs. One recent example involved a company that was having issues with a five-axis stamping robot. All it took was KabelSchlepp’s unique Robotrax cable-carrier system to solve the problem and get production going once again.

Replacing a cracking corrugated tube

The customer’s stamping robot was operating with a corrugated tube that was cracking in various spots every two or three months, which resulted in cable wear and failure. The company tried to contact the supplier of this corrugated tube, but had no luck, so no after-service support was available to fix the issue.

The company needed a new supplier, and in a hurry. An online search led it to Tsubaki, and it sent an inquiry to the Tsubaki team through its website. To the customer’s surprise, Tsubaki replied immediately and agreed to send a sales representative and KabelSchlepp product specialist to the company’s facility. There, they reviewed the application and recommended KabelSchlepp’s Robotrax cable-carrier system as a replacement.

Robotrax is the perfect cable-carrier system for three-dimensional movements. Its basic structure consists of plastic links with spherical snap-on connections on both sides, allowing the user to snap individual links together to form a cable carrier. Because the quick movements of robot arms generate high acceleration and high tensile forces, Robotrax has a hole at the centre of each chain link through which steel cable is pulled, so the cable takes on the function of force transmission.

The customer replaced the corrugated tube with Robotrax, adding all possible options, including tension chucks, strain relief, clamp bolts, and bumper guards. The new solution eliminated all cracking, and no disassembly was necessary when cables had to be replaced, as workers could simply pull cables through the carrier.

The results were so good that the company soon made plans to retrofit its other 20 robots with Robotrax. Once again, KabelSchlepp offered a perfect solution.
