The HMD904 portable magnetic drill by Hougen.

Dobco Equipment is the source that Canadian manufacturers trust for innovative assembly and construction tools by Hougen Manufacturing. A very popular choice is the Hougen HMD904 portable magnetic drill. Like other mag drills from the producer, the HMD904 is a versatile and powerful instrument for making holes in steel and other metals. It makes challenging drilling jobs much easier by bringing the drill to the work piece, instead of the opposite.

With new features and advantages

Workers find it cumbersome and time-consuming to manoeuvre large steel or pipe into position at stationary drill presses and work centres. With its portability, this Hougen tool solves the problem. The user can position it either vertically, horizontally, or upside-down. This flexibility makes the HMD904 perfect for such demanding tasks and industries as steel fabrication, construction, bridge rebuilding, mining, shipbuilding, welding shops, power utilities, and mobile repair shops.

Weighing only 13.6 kilograms, the HMD904 portable magnetic drill has a lightness, compact size, power, and versatility that make it ideal for fabricators, as well as a capacity of 1½ by two inches. Hougen recently improved this tool by redesigning it with even more great features and advantages. The drill now has a stronger, stiffer, more ergonomic housing, a pilot light for dim or no light, and a two-stage magnet with 30 per cent more power when switched on.

Hougen has also added a slot drive arbour to this portable magnetic drill, for higher accuracy and quicker change-out of accessories, plus a swivel base that lets users line up pilots with the holes’ centre locations precisely. Other major features of this tool from Dobco:

  • hidden motor cord;
  • positive slug ejection;
  • feed handles that change quickly from side to side;
  • lift detector safety system;
  • rear mounted controls;
  • gravity feed coolant system; and
  • carrying case.

For a portable machine shop, Hougen also offers a range of accessories, such as drill chucks, tapping, and countersink.
