The HMD130 ultra-low-profile magnetic drill by Hougen

Dobco Equipment Ltd. teams up with Hougen Manufacturing, which invented the portable magnetic drill press, to provide many great industrial tools in this country – including the HMD130 ultra-low-profile magnetic drill. This innovative mag drill is the perfect choice for applications that need a powerful drilling solution in a compact package, especially in confined spaces. Despite its unique lightweight design, the HMD130 offers an extremely large capacity that provides powerful, efficient drilling action.

With bayonet-style twist lock shank

The HMD130 has a potent eight-amp, 115-volt motor that allows it to cut through one-inch holes of up to 1-3/8 inches in diameter. The high torque gearing of this magnetic drill enables long-lasting power, and the patented quill feed arbour allows smooth cutting with minimal vibration and little maintenance. The RotaLoc Plus annular cutters provide a bayonet-style twist lock shank for quick cutter changes, making additional installation or removal tools unnecessary.

Other important features of this mag drill: weight of only 10.8 kilograms (kg); pilot light for visibility; positive slug ejection; lift-detector safety system; feed handle that switches easily from side to side; ratchet that can substitute for feed handle; rear-mounted controls; carrying handle; and carrying case included.

This ultra-low-profile mag drill is available from Dobco with a 25-millimetre (mm) base plate with a dead lift rating of 982 kg and a drill-point breakaway limit of 333 kg. The manufacturer can also provide a 9½-mm plate with a dead lift rating of 544 kg and a breakaway limit of 227 kg. Hougen recommends this drill for general fabrication, truck-frame modification, plant maintenance, onsite assembly and installation, and related tasks.

The HMD130 magnetic drill also has a no-adjustment safety switch that shuts down the drill motor when it detects lifting of the magnetic base, to keep the work environment safe. The LED indicator monitors the sensor and alerts if the switch is not engaged. The two-stage power-on switch stops drill rotation unless the magnet is engaged, while safety circuitry keeps the drill motor off after the power is restored, until the start button is pressed again.
