The Hougen HMD130 ultra-low-profile magnetic drill

The inventor of the portable magnetic drill press, Hougen Manufacturing makes its industrial tools available in Canada via Dobco Equipment Ltd. A major innovation in Hougen’s portfolio is the HMD130 ultra low profile magnetic drill: the ideal pick for tasks requiring a powerful drilling solution in a compact package.

The Hougen HMD130 is distinguished by its lightweight design – but also offers a large capacity in spite of its size.

Patented quill feed arbour

With its powerful eight-amp, 115-volt motor, this low profile magnetic drill from Dobco can cut through one-inch holes of up to 1-3/8 inches in diameter. The high torque gearing allows long-lasting power, while the patented quill feed arbour enables smooth cutting with little vibration and minimal maintenance. The RotaLoc Plus annular cutters offer a bayonet-style twist lock shank for fast cutter changes, with no need for additional installation or removal tools.

Among the other important features of the Hougen HMD130 low profile magnetic drill: weight of only 10.8 kilograms (kg); pilot light for visibility; positive slug ejection; lift-detector safety system; feed handle that switches easily from side to side; ratchet that can substitute for feed handle; rear-mounted controls; carrying handle; and carrying case included.

The HMD130 is available with a 25-millimetre (mm) base plate with a dead lift rating of 982 kg and a drill-point breakaway limit of 333 kg. Hougen also offers a 9½-mm plate with a 544-kg dead lift rating and a 227-kg breakaway limit. The manufacturer recommends this drill for general fabrication, truck-frame modification, plant maintenance, onsite assembly and installation, and similar applications.

This drill also has a no-adjustment safety switch, which shuts down the drill motor if it detects lifting of the magnetic base, to keep the work environment safe. The LED indicator monitors the sensor and alerts if the switch is not engaged. The two-stage power-on switch halts drill rotation unless the magnet is engaged, and safety circuitry keeps the drill motor off after restoration of power, until the start button is pressed.

Trust the HMD130 fast, efficient, powerful hole drilling in confined spaces.
