Watch "Recipe for a Perfect Lab: 4 Key Ingredients" on March 22.

In food processing and other industries that work with dry powder processing, it is highly important to have a state-of-the-art processing laboratory with equipment that is reliable and accurate. Hosokawa Micron, whose processing machines are available in Canada via Firing Industries, is a leader in powder technology – and plans to share some of its expertise in an upcoming live webinar.

In Recipe for a Perfect Lab: 4 Key Ingredients, which will take place online on March 22 at 2 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time), Hosokawa Micron will show manufacturers how to put together the ideal lab environment for dry-powder applications.

Four recommended processing devices

Recipe for a Perfect Lab is a guide to four essential pieces of dry powder processing equipment that every applicable manufacturing company should possess. Hosokawa Micron recommends these important lab devices:

  • Mikro Air Jet Sieve MAJSx. This is a highly accurate and dependable particle-size analyzer that laboratories need to determine the particle-size distribution of dry powder from 20 to 4,750 micrometres.
  • Micron Powder Tester PT-X. This instrument uses 11 different test functions to determine the “flowability and floodability” characteristics of dry powder.
  • Mikro LPM Laboratory Pin Mill. The smallest piece of equipment in the Universal Mikro Pulverizer line, the Pin Mill is for grinding small samples ranging from five to 100 grams. It can produce materials as small as 35 micrometres long.
  • Micron Labomixer LV-1. This laboratory-scale conical screw mixer is built to mix dry powder and liquid additives gently, in batches up to 2.5 litres.

These four powder processes – particle-size analysis, powder-flow characteristics, fine grinding, and lab-scale mixing – are the foundation of manufacturing dry powder, and mastering them all is essential to industry success. Accurate and dependable equipment is a must.

Recipe for a Perfect Lab: 4 Key Ingredients will last for about 45 minutes and end with a question-and-answer session. Hosokawa Micron recommends this program highly for anyone who processes powder material or who works in a lab environment.
