flexible metal hosing

Metal hose products are available from Hose Master.

Hose Master flexible metal hosing is available through Sudbury International Engineered Products Ltd. A recent blog entry by the manufacturer discusses how to upgrade piping systems affordably in 2020, when industrial budgets are being slashed. Neglect of a piping system can lead to costly, unnecessary failure and downtime.

The blog suggests ways to upgrade piping systems with Hose Master products from Sudbury International, in a way that balances performance and budget.

A more flexible assembly

One way to get an affordable piping upgrade is a more flexible assembly. Flexible metal hosing and expansion joints can achieve this, depending on the specific application. Two factors to consider: bend radius and force to bend.

The user can examine flexibility via the hose’s minimum bend radius, or how tightly one can flex it without damaging corrugations. Increasing the number of corrugations per foot without changing the dimensions can accomplish this, and one can bend it more tightly. This is the difference between the Hose Master Annuflex and Masterflex selections available through Sudbury International. Even if the smaller minimum bend radius is not required for the task, there are other advantages to it.

It also helps to consider the amount of force necessary to bend the flexible metal hosing. Wall thickness is a factor that contributes to this force: lesser thickness requires less force to bend. So an assembly with a thinner wall can make things easier for a maintenance crew. Installation takes up less time and energy, leading to quicker assembly and higher safety.

Hose Master also recommends recycling fittings. If an assembly is to be replaced, flanges in good condition could probably be sent back to the manufacturer. Hose Master’s in-house machining department can reuse them for new assemblies. This helps lower overall replacement costs.

Adding an accessory can add more to assemblies in the short term, but the right choice can potentially save costs in the long term by avoiding unplanned outages and unexpected repairs. A strip-wound guard adds extra protection in a steel mill, and a liner boosts preservation for conveyance of abrasive media.
