The S.T.A.M.P.E.D. method helps customers choose the best metal hosing.

Sudbury International Engineered Products Limited supplies Hose Master solutions to Canadian businesses. Although many of the manufacturer’s metal hoses may seem similar on the surface, customers should pose critical questions and consider certain characteristics before settling on specific products. Fortunately, Hose Master provides its own guide to selecting the right metal hose. By choosing the right solution, the user can address all of the relevant challenges and optimize all applications.

Learning the S.T.A.M.P.E.D. method

Hose Master has developed the S.T.A.M.P.E.D. method to make it simpler to select its products from Sudbury International. This acronym stands for the design parameters that customers should determine in advance, to design a metal-hose assembly for a specific requirement. The S.T.A.M.P.E.D. formula denotes the following criteria:

  • Size – To provide a proper fit, Sudbury International must know the diameter of the connections in which the user will install the assembly.
  • Temperature – The strength of the assembly’s components lowers as the temperature to which the assembly is exposed increases.
  • Application – the configuration in which the user installs the assembly, including the dimensions into which the assembly must fit and the details of any movement it experiences.
  • Media – all chemicals to which the assembly will be exposed, internally and externally. Components must be chemically compatible with media.
  • Pressure – the internal pressure to which the assembly will be exposed. A strip-wound metal hose is not pressure-tight, because of its construction, but pressure and media infiltration can be minimized through the wall by inserting a packing into the wall.
  • End fittings – It is essential to identify the required fittings, since they need to fit the mating connections properly.
  • Dynamics – the velocity at which media flows through the assembly. Excessively high flow or abrasive media can lead to premature failure.

Choosing the appropriate configuration is crucial, whether it involves hose and assembly components or expansion joints. Customers should carefully review type, size, alloy, length, and other factors. Since every application is different, each user must ensure that every assembly is designed for the applicable purpose and operating conditions.
