metallic expansion joints

NISCO offers four types of HOLZ metal expansion joints.

Expansion joints are among the top specialties of HOLZ Rubber Company, and these products are available in Canada via Northern Industrial Supply Company (NISCO). HOLZ manufactures four types of joints, including several designs of metallic expansion joints, recommended for industrial applications that involve extreme temperatures and other challenges.

HOLZ designs its metallic expansion joints for unique environmental and installation conditions. They suit a broad variety of applications and solve extremely demanding challenges.

For complex piping, ducting systems

HOLZ’ lineup of metallic joints can handle extreme temperatures, ranging from -251 to 982 degrees Celsius, as well as pressures of up to 1,000 pounds per square inch. They are most suited to challenging tasks involving air, gas, and media problems in complex piping and ducting systems. The manufacturer also recommends these joints for the following applications:

  • Fossil-fuel power generation;
  • Pressure vessel manufacturing;
  • Desalination plants;
  • Chemicals and petrochemicals;
  • Oil refineries;
  • Pharmaceuticals;
  • Marine applications; and
  • Wastewater treatment.

NISCO can supply four types of HOLZ metallic expansion joints. The most fundamental form is its single-bellow joint, designed to comply with the standards of the Expansion Joint Manufacturers Association. Its construction is based on unique environmental and installation conditions like pressure, temperature, movement, space, and corrosion. Single-bellow-joints have flanged or welded pipe ends and compensate for movement within the pipe sections in which they are installed. The second type, universal expansion joints, is made for similar conditions, but allows greater lateral movement than bellow joints do.

External pressurized expansion joints allow a greater number of convolutions to be used for large axial movements without losing any bellows stability. The line pressure acts on the external surfaces of bellows by means of an external pressure chamber. Finally, pressure-balanced (elbow and inline) joints are rectangular or square expansion joints designed to address pressure thrust as they absorb axial/lateral movement accomplished by the addition of equalizing bellows tied to the flow bellows so as to cancel opposing forces that pressure induces. They have folded corners and are mitered, with low-pressure bellows for ducting and fan applications.
