HOLZ recently solved a restaurant's problems with excessive noise and vibration from an exhaust fan.

This was the manufacturer’s task not too long ago, when a restaurant was having issues with a large exhaust fan.

Reducing noise and equipment damage

The restaurant was using the exhaust fan to remove grease and other contaminants from inside the building, where employees prepared the food. But the fan has serious problems with noise and vibration. When the exhaust’s duct work was originally designed, the fan was connected to the restaurant building directly with a rigid metal duct. The duct’s stiffness was causing it to transfer fan vibration directly to the restaurant, which resulted in damage and excessive noise inside the building.

To deal with the problem, the restaurant staff contacted the local HOLZ distributor. In turn, the distributor got in touch with HOLZ itself to devise the best solution.

After examining the exhaust fan and its connection to the restaurant, the HOLZ team deduced that the duct work between the fan and the building required a custom designed expansion joint. So HOLZ’ engineering department and the distributor worked together to design the new joint.

The final product was a sleeve-type joint that could be installed simply by banding it in place, with minimal effort. HOLZ created this custom designed expansion joint to isolate the fan from the restaurant building, in order to reduce vibration and minimize the chances of equipment damage. The reduction of vibration travelling along the duct work would result in a significant decrease of fan noise inside the building.

The restaurant purchased the expansion joint – and it worked perfectly. Today, with HOLZ’ help, vibration and noise are no longer a problem.
