HNBR elastomers

Pipeline construction in winter is one application in which HNBR elastomers work well.

These black O-rings are available from Daemar in a full line of durometer (specifically 70, 80, and 90 durometer) to suit many applications in different industries. A major advantage is their long service life, enabling use in severe work conditions.

High heat and oxidation stability

Also referred to as Highly Saturated Nitrile, or HSN, HNBR is a superior material to nitrile rubber, or NBR, in low brittle temperature, heat, oil, oil additive, and sour oil resistance. HNBR is also far more resistant to sour gasoline and ozone than NBR is, and it is perfect for industrial products that are normally made of NBR.

These elastomers offer an unparalleled range of performance at a cost between NBR and (per)fluoroelastomers. HNBR elastomers fill the gap between these two elements in many application areas in which simultaneous resistance to heat and aggressive media is required. They are also highly recommended in tasks that need resistance to ozone and weathering, industrial lubricants, amine-based corrosion inhibitors, sour gases like hydrogen sulfide, hot water, or steam. The oil and gas industry typically uses these elastomers in applications involving O-rings, hammer union seals, and gaskets.

Advantages of using HNBR elastomers include the following:

  • High heat and oxidation stability;
  • High mechanical strength;
  • Superior wear resistance
  • Suitability in ultra-pure water and steam; and
  • Typical hardness range from 70 to 90 Shore A.

With a standard temperature range from -50 to 160 degrees Celsius, these elements are also ideal for cold-weather environments. To keep up with the rising demand of cold-weather applications for HNBR, Daemar has temperature-rated its 80-durometer O-rings to -50 degrees Celsius.

Users must not expose HNBR to ketones, esters, ethers, or aromatic liquids.
