N.R. Murphy supplies high-efficiency filters.

N.R. Murphy Ltd.’s portfolio of industrial air-quality equipment spans a wide range. Although the company has a long-time reputation for dust collectors and fans, it is also a great source for high-efficiency filters. These filters are recommended for applications that need extremely efficient filtration, especially in work environments that require a high degree of cleanliness. They are among the important components that workplaces often need to ensure clean, safe indoor air.

Perfect for chemicals, precision assembly

The N.R. Murphy lineup includes absolute high-efficiency particulate air filters, also known as HEPA filters – a type of mechanical air filter that functions by forcing air through a fine mesh that traps pollen, pet dander, dust mites, tobacco smoke, and other hazardous particles. The company manufactures, tests, certifies, and labels these high-efficiency filters as per current HEPA standards. They are more than 99.97 per cent efficient for particles as small as 0.3 microns and approach an efficiency of 99.97 per cent for smaller particles.

These filters are recommended mainly for the chemical sector and in precision-assembly areas. Installing them typically requires intermediate or high-efficiency pre-filters upstream of the absolute filter, to keep most dust away and to prolong the absolute filter’s life as much as possible. They can be used on their own, although this would reduce their filtering efficiency by around 95 per cent with particles measuring 0.3 microns.

To give customers an idea of the relative sizes of common air contaminants, N.R. Murphy has posted a convenient chart illustrating the differences on its website. According to this chart, this line of high-efficiency filters can eliminate substances as diverse as dust, fumes, pollen, mould, bacteria, viruses, and oil or tobacco smoke from air.

A variety of sizes are available for these high-efficiency filters, most commonly two square feet and going from seven to 12½ inches deep, with airflow capacities from 200 to 2,000 cubic feet per minute. The filters are usable individually or in a series, depending on airflow capacity. Optional holding frames and side entrance housings are available too, with flanges for easy attachment to ductwork.
