Predictive and preventative maintenance have different kinds of benefits.

LOCTITE® industrial adhesives are available from Henkel and are extremely useful in maintenance. Proper maintenance of equipment helps to eliminate downtime, which results in lost productivity, extra labour costs to get back in operation, and/or the costs of new equipment. The ideal solution is to prevent equipment failure before it occurs. The two most effective approaches are predictive maintenance and preventative maintenance, either of which saves the time and expense of unexpected, reactive repairs.

Extend time between breakdowns

While both methods are about early intervention, as opposed to action after a breakdown, and are beneficial to manufacturing operations, there is a difference between predictive and preventative maintenance. Preventative maintenance centres on using the expected lifespans of components to the user’s advantage – changing perishable parts before they wear out at regular intervals. Predictive maintenance is similar, but with an extra step: leveraging the power of data to examine past breakdowns and failure, while using real-time information to keep track of equipment conditions. This way, users can spot trends and predict failure, then make repairs and replacements at optimal times.

Both types of maintenance offer major benefits over reactive repairs, and the right products help businesses eliminate breakdowns entirely. Henkel offers a range of LOCTITE® products that serve as ideal maintenance solutions to keep equipment running. Among the key advantages of both:

  • a more proactive approach
  • fewer unexpected interruptions
  • optimum operating expenses
  • more reliable equipment
  • longer equipment lifespans
  • extended mean times between failures

In addition, preventative maintenance has its own advantages over the predictive method. Preventative maintenance is easier to plan, as users know when equipment will be down, and it is cheaper to implement, with no need for extensive data analytics. The preventative approach is also simpler, as scheduling requires less immediate expertise than predictive maintenance does.

On the other hand, predictive maintenance creates more effective repairs, with less risk of users accidentally replacing components that are still fine. The predictive method reduces overall downtime, allowing users to get operations back to full capacity more quickly, and it has a lower overall cost.
