Henkel offers ‘one of the most effective tools’ for mining maintenance

It’s no secret that mines are one of the most demanding work environments. Mining equipment often runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all while being subject to severe vibration. The mining industry, an integral part of the Canadian economy, relies on this equipment, so failure is not an option.

In a recent blog post, Pintu Patel, market development manager for mining at Henkel, discusses the solutions the company offers to help extend equipment life — solutions that can stand up to harsh and challenging mining environments. 

“Loctite 2047 Threadlocker has been one of the most effective weapons in our arsenal,” Patel writes. 

Ideal for applications that require both high strength and high lubricity, Loctite 2047 is a dual-function threadlocker for large fasteners (grade eight and above) such as nuts, bolts and studs. It’s a lubricant and threadlocker in one, Patel explains, because it has the ability to reduce thread friction to achieve optimal clamp load on large fasteners, but it’s also able to seal and eliminate loosening from vibration. Plus, it prevents corrosion to ensure a maintainable assembly. 

Loctite 2047 has a maximum temperature resistance of up to 150 degrees C, a fixture time of 90 minutes and is fully cured in 24 hours. 

“In this harsh and hazardous and cost-conscious industry, it’s vital to keep critical components functioning and focus on service, repair and maintenance rather than expensive replacement,” Patel writes, explaining that it’s often the smallest components like nuts and bolts that pose the greatest threats. “Loctite 2047 and other threadlockers prevent fastener failure, cut costs and make regular maintenance work easier.”

It’s a tool the company believes every mine should have on hand for maintenance activities.
