Heavy Duty Flap pumps can deal with tough solids

York Fluid Controls recently began distributing Sandpiper’s Signature Series line of air-operated double-diaphragm (AODD) pumps. This includes a variety of Heavy Duty Flap (HDF) pumps, which are designed to handle solid materials and abrasive slurries with better suction.

How it works

In a typical pump, solids cannot pass through and end up settling inside, which not only affects the pump’s operational ability, but can also shorten its life. Each of Sandpiper’s innovative HDF pumps includes a bottom discharge that allows solids to pass through and prevents them from settling inside. Flap check valves also assist in handling large solids. These HDF pumps are capable of handling up to 76 millimetres of solids, with a maximum suction lift of seven metres.

Available in six designs, the HDF pumps have thick walls constructed of sand-casted aluminum, cast iron and stainless steel, with elastomer diaphragms and check valves. Other features include: durable diaphragm connecting rods, for reliable diaphragm control; externally serviceable air distribution systems with air valves; dynamic manifold connections with rotation options; and superior dry primes for up to seven metres of water.

Sandpiper’s HDF pumps are lightweight and portable, with some weighing as little as 21 kilograms. Flow rates range from 159 to 988 litres per minute, depending on the design.
