Ohio Broach & Machine Company has the capability to manufacture different types of broaching machines. Its expertise includes the production of heavy-duty vertical surface broaching machines in five-ton capacities, with strokes from 24 through to 54 inches.

Key features

Ohio Broach heavy-duty vertical surface broaching machines feature steel ways composed of high carbon steel, hardened and tempered, then ground to closely controlled tolerances. The result is a durable machine with a long service life.

These machines also have precision ram slides manufactured from close-grain, high-tensile, cast-iron material. The slide surfaces are hand-scraped for a precise fit, then flaked for maximum lubrication penetration. The ram slide is mounted on a rigid base weldment, which also serves as a coolant reservoir for the machine, enabling a compact design that takes up a minimum of expensive plant floor space.

In addition, all heavy-duty models utilize a pressurized, individual point lubrication system, complete with low reservoir level indication, anti-start interlocking and high pressure indication for detecting an impaired normal flow condition.

Each unit also features a high-performance, fixed-displacement vane pump, which is used in conjunction with other valves and controls. Together, they form the basis of the standard machine drive system, which has a reliable, industrial “open-loop” design.

Optional features

There are several table options that can be added to any heavy-duty machine if the standard platen table design doesn’t meet the customer’s needs. For example, a tip back table design can be ordered instead. This design has the capability to tilt the work-holding fixture back 35 degrees from horizontal to allow the operator more convenient access for loading and unloading of workpieces, and automatically tilts forward on command to put the loaded workholding fixture in the proper attitude for broaching. An infeed shuttle table is also an option. It allows multiple repetitive broach cuts, and moves in-and-out on a horizontal plane so that the machine can make repeated passes until a predetermined depth of cut is obtained. In addition, both designs can be combined to form the patented infeed shuttle/tip back combination table.
