Process Heaters can supply a range of electrically heated hose assemblies. These hoses can optimize the transfer of non-explosive liquids or gases for a variety of applications. For instance, they are used for the transfer of everything from plastics and adhesives to water and steam. There are also a range of models available for special requirements such as high-pressure capacity or freeze protection.

Many uses

Some other examples of typical applications include:

  • Bulk transfer;
  • Paint systems;
  • Food products;
  • Hot oil lines;
  • Waxes for candle making; and
  • Tar and asphalt.

Design features

These heated transfer hoses are constructed to the highest standards and assembled by hand. Some of the key design features of these hoses include the abrasion-resistant outer covering, heat shrink tube end caps, and the capability to incorporate built-in RTDs or thermocouples in the assembly. To limit maximum temperatures, snap action thermostats can also be integrated into these assemblies. Hoses can be supplied in overall lengths up to 600 inches, and temperature ranges up to 232 degrees C (450 degrees F).

Hose construction details

The hose assemblies consist of a smooth bore Teflon core with a stainless steel overbraid. Wrapped over this is a layer of self-vulcanizing silicone TGL bedding tape, which acts as a base for resistance wire. Stranded resistance wire is insulated with Kapton before it is wound around the assembly. Two layers of Nomex felt insulation are then added to provide consistent heating, and keep the hose cool to the touch. As standard, the hoses have a polyester braid outer cover that is abrasion resistant. For wet environments, an optional water-resistant outer cover is available. Lastly, the heat shrink end caps, electrical connectors, hydraulic fittings and any built-in sensors are added.
