The HBM GEN7i transient recorder and data acquisition system, distributed by Durham Instruments

HBM Test and Measurement manufactures a number of innovative data acquisition systems, or DAQ systems, that are available in Canada via Durham Instruments – including its GEN series. The versatile GEN7i is not only a strong, portable DAQ system for use in the field and in laboratories, but also a transient recorder for measurement data, which can be used remotely from an external computer.

An upgrade on the GEN5i

The GEN7i transient recorder and DAQ system is an upgrade of HBM’s GEN5i, with a smaller form factor, more channels, and more processing power. This robust mobile instrument has all the necessary features and attributes of a transient recorder, combining a full-featured, low-power Intel Core i7 third-generation Windows computer with a high-resolution touchscreen and a robust, seven-slot acquisition unit. It comes with five Windows languages and eight Perception languages, all pre-installed.

Another unique feature of the GEN7i is its Instrument Panel touch interface, which provides single-touch access to all features for daily operation. This user-friendly interface allows workers to employ extra software options for analysis and accurate reporting with only one touch. The device also has Perception Enterprise for post-processing, as well as a system disk option that moves the internal fixed OS disk to a removable disk bay; the latter feature makes sure that no recorded information is left in the instrument once a disk is stored securely.

The GEN7i is rife with other notable features, such as the following:

  • Seven slots for any combo of acquisition cards;
  • Up to 224 analog channels;
  • Continuous streaming of 350 megabytes;
  • Master/Slave synchronization;
  • PTP time synchronization, or optional IRIG/GPS time synchronization;
  • Wake on LAN; and
  • Multiple Ethernet options, such as one-gigabyte optical or ten-gigabyte optical or electrical.

Accessories available include a protective carrying bag, a cable pouch, a USB Keyboard, and a USB optical mouse. There are also four front-panel controls.

HBM recommends the GEN7i DAQ system for applications in multiple industries. It is highly useful in general manufacturing, aerospace, the military, power generation, alternative energy, education, research and development, and transportation.
