The T40B torque transducer by HBM

Durham Instruments supplies HBM Test and Measurement solutions to businesses across Canada, and a popular example is the T40B torque transducer. This highly innovative device is trusted by customers everywhere for its top static and dynamic digital torque measurement, with nominal (rated) torques that run from 50 to 10,000 newton metres. This torque flange is a cost-efficient, high-performance transducer that delivers to users high precision, robustness, and reproducible results in test benches.

Maintenance-free and fail-safe operation

A versatile unit that produces digital torque measurement for power-train, aero, engine testing, and other applications in various industries, the T40B offers such key user advantages as high-temperature stability and 0.03 per cent accuracy with respect to linearity, including hysteresis. This instrument enables power measurement in the drive train when it is combined with the integrated magnetic rotational-speed measuring system. The non-contact power supply and digital signal transmission result in maintenance-free and fail-safe operation, and the TIM-EC interface module for the EtherCAT and TIM-PN for Profinet create top performance and flexibility when integrating torque and rotational speed signals with world-class test-bench systems.

The T40B torque flange has an HBM accuracy class of 0.05, high temperature stability, and high accuracy and stability because of the ratiometric measurement method. Even in challenging ambient environments, its innovative digital data transmission delivers dependable measurement information. High vibration strength makes it robust, and error detection allows transmission with no interference or loss in accuracy.

Maximum flexibility for current and future digital torque measurement is another benefit. Analog and digital interfaces are available for simpler integration with different test-bench systems, plus an optional reference pulse for acquiring the absolute rotor position. The instrument is especially potent for testing electrical equipment when used with Genesis High Speed. The reference pulse helps users obtain data about the absolute rotor position, required for analysis.

The T40B is the first transducer in its class to benefit from extremely secure digital data transfer between rotor and stator. Durham Instruments deems it suitable for use in the general manufacturing, aerospace, automation, food-processing, forestry, medical, military, power-generation, alternative-energy, and transportation sectors.
