The T21WN torque transducer by HBM

Durham Instruments supplies many HBM Test and Measurement products, including the T21WN industrial torque transducer. An upgrade of HBM’s T20WN transducer, this compact unit is easily and quickly integrated into the measurement chain with the robust VK20A junction box. Based in strain-gauge technology, the T21WN uses non-contacting energy and measurement signal transmission to measure torque. This is a highly practical and flexible solution for torque measurement in many applications.

Reliable measurement of component torque

HBM recommends the T21WN for reliable measurement of relatively low static and dynamic torque on both rotating and non-rotating components. For example, this industrial torque transducer can be used in test benches for bearings and in material or haptic tests in medical-engineering applications and research laboratories.

The T21WN torque transducer is a safe, all-inclusive device that offers maintenance-free operation, rotational-speed measurement with 360 pulses per revolution, and angle-of-rotation measurement with an integrated measurement system. Other features and specifications of this flexible unit:

  • Output signal of plus or minus ten volts and nominal (rated) torque;
  • HBM accuracy class of 0.2;
  • Nominal torque range from 0.1 to 200 newton metres;
  • Nominal rotational speed of up to 20,000 revolutions per minute;
  • Standard voltage and frequency outputs (plus or minus ten volts; ten kilohertz +/- five kilohertz);
  • EtherCAT and PROFINET;
  • Measuring bandwidth of up to one kilohertz; and
  • Input voltage from ten to 28.8 volts.

An extensive range of accessories is available for this industrial torque transducer, such as connection cables in five- or ten-metre lengths, a 12-pin cable socket, bellows couplings, a VK20A junction box, and TIM-EC/TIM-PN/ClipX interface modules.

Users can operate the T21WN with bellows couplings in any mounting position – horizontally, vertically, or at an angle. For the latter two positions, additional elements must be adequately supported. Bellows couplings must not be overstretched beyond permissible flexibility limits.

The T21WN is a versatile unit. Durham Instruments deems it suitable for use in many industries, like general manufacturing, aerospace, automation, food processing, forestry, the medical field, the military, mining, packaging, power generation, alternative energy, and transportation.
