The GEN2tB transient recorder by HBM

Durham Instruments collaborates with HBM Test and Measurement to offer great industrial solutions to Canadian businesses, like the GEN2tB transient recorder and data-acquisition (DAQ) system. This compact DAQ system is a standalone distributable device that provides high-end features while staying cost-efficient for small channel counts, with only two slots.

With its compact size, the GEN2tB is the perfect option for portable and mobile applications. The user can mount it on a rack for an end-of-line test bench.

Suits several versatile applications

This compact DAQ system is a versatile instrument that expands with user needs: it functions as a high-end transient recorder, an entry-level DAQ device, or both. It works for applications in a variety of sectors; Durham Instruments deems it suitable for tasks in aerospace, automation, the military, mining, power generation, and transportation.

HBM recommends the GEN2tB for tasks in which many channels must be distributed around a large structure or over a test area. This is due to the optical Master/Slave connection, which is immune to electrical noise. This compact DAQ system and transient recorder comes with free Perception standard software, which can be installed on as many computers as required to control every system and review acquired data.

By choosing the appropriate input card, organizations can use the GEN2tB device for several versatile applications. Among the examples:

  • material testing with strain gauges, IEPE sensors, or thermocouples, with a sample rate of up to 500 kilo-samples per second;
  • recording voltages or vibrations with IEPE transducers, with up to 16 channels at the same time at up to two mega-samples per second;
  • ultra-fast voltage or strain-gauge measurements, like “Split-Hopkinson bar”; and
  • using the system as a 12-channel power analyzer, with real-time power computation and harmonic analysis.

The system can be expanded to up to 12 voltage (or current) channels, 16 high-speed sensor channels, or 24 channels that use fibre-optic digitizers or any combination of these. The lightweight, rugged construction makes it easy for users to transport the GEN2tB with a carrying bag or belt, and there is an optional SSD drive.
