A paradigm shift

ECOM Instruments has launched a family of compatible tablets, peripherals and accessories suitable for worldwide use in Zone 1/21 and Division 1, and rugged environments. These tablets are changing the way mobile workers perform such tasks as asset surveys, material tracking, operator rounds, inspection, data collection and plant maintenance in the oil and gas, refining, chemical, pharmaceuticals and other hazardous industries. Thanks to the Tab-Ex 01 tablet family, there is now an opportunity for improved decision-making and mobile worker collaboration, increased efficiency and improved data quality related to work tasks performed in hazardous areas.

Key features and advantages

The Tab-Ex 01 is based on the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active platform — the Android Kitkat 4.4.4 or Lollipop 5.1.1 Operating System. It features an eight-inch screen, which enables workers to view and interact with SCADA/DCS systems, enterprise systems, project management systems and computer-aided design systems. Optional built-in cameras and a full range of wireless capability allows equipment defects to be captured during inspection and maintenance operations, and be instantly visible to those who need to diagnose the issue and determine the followup actions.

This solution provides compatibility with a wide range of preloaded applications for a safer work environment, including unparalleled security functions like device encryption, MDM, VPN and secure connectivity. In addition, software applications developed or licensed for the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active will work unchanged on the Tab-Ex 01.
