Harting proves it’s an industry pioneer

Harting is celebrating an industry first this month. The leading provider of connectivity solutions has announced that more than two dozen of its connector configurations have passed rigorous safety testing by UL and have been designated “UL-recognized”. Harting is the only connector manufacturer with products that have earned this status and corresponding UL mark, which was created by UL at Harting’s request. 

What does this mean?

UL 508 is the must-have certification standard for electrical control cabinets for OEMs, particularly for those intended for the North American market. Previously, an OEM could not use individual connectors in a field-assembled, UL 508-certified control cabinet unless it subjected the end product to extensive additional UL safety testing at its own expense. This time-consuming process often caused delays in bringing a new machine to market. 

By getting its components UL-recognized, Harting is facilitating the use of connectors and connector-based cable assemblies in electrical control panels, switchgear and other control systems requiring UL 508 certification, simplifying and fast tracking end product certification in the process. 

A wide selection of connectors

Harting has a UL-recognized connector for almost any control panel application. However, the company plans to seek the status for more of its connectors in the coming months and years.

Taking it a step further, the company says it will launch an extensive range of UL-listed, pre-assembled standard cable assemblies made with UL-recognized connectors. These assemblies may be employed in UL 508-certified control cabinets without any additional testing or other conditions.
