Because automated processing of components is increasing steadily in today’s manufacturing world and the automated assembly of printed circuit boards is constantly expanding to include even more components, HARTING developed the M12 SMT series to keep pace. Users can seat these industrial circular connectors on a circuit board with pick and place, which is automated and quick.

In the past, circuit boards were limited to just a few parts. These days, users can load virtually all of the components of a board by using pick and play. The next step is to heat all of the components in a soldering furnace and solder them, which eliminates the need for separate wave soldering while saving a substantial amount of money.

HARTING offers the M12 SMT series of industrial circular connectors in three codes – A, D, and X – and in both male and female versions. This move has brought both power and Ethernet up to ten gigabytes per second to the PCB from the new miniaturized switches. This diversity of designs offers distinct advantages for the user, such as the automated, fast, and more cost-efficient placement of the connection. This is because the connection can be equipped on both sides, due to the dispensing with through-hole contacts.
