Wilhelm and Marie Harting, the company founders

Sept. 1 of this year was a landmark date in the history of the HARTING Technology Group. That day marked the 75th anniversary of the founding of this family company. That is 75 years of developing and manufacturing top digital solutions – all available in this country through HARTING Canada.

To celebrate this important milestone, the company’s global headquarters in Minden, Germany has planned a ceremony and an open-house day for its employees.

Decades of shaping the future

For three-quarters of a century, HARTING been driving top digital solutions and technological change while providing decisive impetus for upcoming generations. Since 1996, the owner family has lived under its own formulated vision, “We want to shape the future with technologies for people,” a mission that has remained the guiding star of the company’s entrepreneurial activities.

From its humble beginnings as a producer of everyday items, HARTING has grown into a world-leading manufacturer and supplier of top digital solutions in industrial connection for the three lifelines of data, signal and power. The corporation remains a global player, creating innovative connectivity products that prepare businesses for Industry 4.0 and digitization. HARTING has succeeded in opening new markets with its technologies in e-mobility, resource-saving power generation, and other areas in the core business of industrial connectivity.

HARTING was the baby of married entrepreneurs Wilhelm and Marie Harting, who opened a small business called Wilhelm Harting Mechanical Workshops on Sept. 1, 1945, inside a 100-square-metre hall in a Minden repair shop. The couple manufactured energy-saving bulbs, hotplates, electric fencing equipment, waffle irons, electric lighters, and more here. But the Hartings had to expand the company after a steady increase in the amount and sizes of their orders. They noted a demand for versatile, robust, user-friendly connectors, which resulted in the development of the Han connector – soon the global standard in workplace connectivity.

Over the years, HARTING came to comprise 13 production sites and 43 sales companies worldwide. Watch this video for a unique look at the HARTING story:
