Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner met up with the HARTING team at IMTS in Chicago.

The HARTING Technology Group has a stellar international reputation for connection technology, and it brings its expertise to the Canadian market through its local affiliate, HARTING Canada. The company’s contributions to the manufacturing world recently gained recognition from one high-profile source: Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner.

Governor Rauner visited the HARTING Booth at the International Manufacturing and Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago on Sept. 12. Rauner met with Jon DeSouza, president and CEO of HARTING Americas, and praised the company’s contributions to connection technology in his state.

Promoting a culture of manufacturing

“Thank you to the HARTING family and Jon for your commitment,” Rauner said at the event, acknowledging the company’s longtime partnership with Illinois. “It’s a commitment that continues to grow, an endorsement of our state’s ability to provide a strong culture of manufacturing in which companies like HARTING can prosper.”

This was not the first time Rauner and DeSouza had met up this year. Rauner visited HARTING’s global headquarters in Espelkamp, Germany in April. There, the company briefed him on such issues as apprenticeship training and plans to expand scientific and entrepreneurial partnerships. HARTING’s continuing success in Illinois is leading to expanded engineering, development, and manufacturing footprint.

“We’re delighted to welcome the Governor again,” said DeSouza. “We were privileged to have him visit us in Germany, and now once again here in Chicago, where we can show him our key innovations for the smart manufacturing concepts of today and tomorrow.”

According to DeSouza, these innovations address six major ongoing trends in advanced manufacturing through connection technology: miniaturization, modularization, identification, integration, customization, and digitization. “Digitization, for example, means taking things that typically do not transmit data or are analog and make them digital,” he added, “so that they can be integrated into larger IIoT systems.”

DeSouza also took the opportunity to demonstrate three new MICA IIoT starter kits for Rauner. These kits are designed to make it faster, easier, and more economical for companies to incorporate IIoT concepts.

In Illinois, in Canada, and all around the globe, HARTING is shaking up manufacturing technology.
