Not only are HARTING Canada and its parent corporation veteran manufacturers of connectivity solutions; they are also strong supporters of sustainability and the reduction of carbon-dioxide emissions. This includes electric vehicles, for which the company is a Tier 1 supplier of electric cables to Volkswagen for robust, reliable, and user-friendly charging solutions.

Last year, HARTING actively supported a Volkswagen trek across the United States – which achieved a new Guinness world record.

Forty-eight states, 56,000 kilometres

Professional long-distance driver Rainer Zietlow and photographer Derek Collins piloted a Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV more than 56,000 kilometres on a course through 48 states, a journey that took 97 days. This trek more than doubled the previous record, but more importantly, it proved the endurance of electric cars.

The tour ended at the Volkswagen Group of America headquarters in Herndon, VA. Both Zietlow, who is also the founder of the Challenge4 event agency, and Collins, who had taken numerous photos during the tour, successfully completed the longest journey within a single country by an electric vehicle. The tour had put in stops at 208 charging stations by the end.

“The record not only documents the reliability of the ID.4,” says Zietlow, “but also to the actual readiness status of the charging infrastructure in the U.S.”

As a cable supplier to Volkswagen, the HARTING team supports the transition to e-mobility with its charging products and connectors for electric vehicles – contributing to the fight against the threat of climate change. HARTING knows that a major barrier to the switch to electric vehicles is the concern that not enough charging stations will be available, or that the vehicles themselves cannot handle long-distance journeys. Zietlow’s achievement proves that electric vehicles are very viable solutions, both for short distances and for long road trips. The infrastructure is in place, and the technology exists.

This new world record is a strong justification for advancing electro-mobility further and makes a clear statement. With HARTING as a dedicated supporter, automotive manufacturers worldwide should have more, greater opportunities to demonstrate the performance of e-mobility solutions.
