A plug-in cable assembly with a Han-Eco connector and CEE coupling

Among the many great connectivity solutions available from HARTING Canada are plug-in, pre-assembled cabling options for distributing power from the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) of data centres to rack power distribution units, or PDUs. Each of these products optimizes the data centre’s energy supply chain by decreasing installation time substantially, as compared to fixed wiring, and boosting profit at the same time. Thanks to plug and play, users same time and expense during installation.

No more manual wiring

Data-centre developers and planners previously had to wire electrical connections manually from every UPS to the PDUs, but this task took too much time and was prone to wiring errors. Plug-in cable assemblies are safer: they are pre-wired, tested, and usable in plug-and-play mode. So after the user has installed the IT equipment being supplied with power, the only task left is to plug in the cable assembly, which takes far less time than wiring it directly to the PDUs would.

It is extremely important to minimize downtime, which is another advantage of this alternative solution. During maintenance, a worker can quickly, simply take the connection apart and re-establish it with a HARTING cable assembly. This yields far less downtime that hard wiring does.

With the advent of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), manufacturers are developing intelligent solutions on the connector side, which are already on the market. These connectors allow identification modules to store data about a unit’s status and communicate the information. Over-voltage protection modules stop damage to data-centre units that could lead to system issues.

HARTING offers the Han-Eco line of connectors for data centres. These units are made of high-performance plastic that users can fit with compact modules and Han-Modular inserts. On top of power and signal modules, the Han-Modular series has modules for transmitting info in the Gigabit range. Han-Modular inserts allow PDU design engineers to develop fully customized cable assemblies quickly and easily with standard off-the-shelf modules.

Users can also transmit temperature- or voltage-level signals in the PDU through a standardized connector base, such as the HARTING Han-Eco, for example.
