miniature connectors

Miniaturization is changing the face of connectivity.

Industrial connectivity continues to evolve as manufacturers come up with more innovative solutions – and HARTING Canada is always on top of the latest connectivity trends. A key example is miniature connectors, which have become more common in recent years. Businesses love compact connectors because they allow more in less space.

Miniaturization is one of many current trends in connectivity – alongside modularization, rectangular shapes, and more – that are changing the face of industrial power transmission.

Dimension, weight, use, and handling

As industrial equipment evolves towards integrated industry, it is becoming more compact and complex. The trend towards miniature connectors has to be implemented at all levels of their components and solutions, as far as dimension, design, weight, use, usability, and handling go.

Today, data drive the world. Mobile phones keep everyone connected to the Internet constantly, usually in wireless formats; many devices are connected to the web and communicate with it and with other devices. The connectivity sector uses data to connect machines to produce data that can be used to create powerful insights that will result in wiser, quicker, and more profitable business decisions. The overall trend is to accomplish more in the same footprint or a smaller one. While cell phone have been getting slimmer, they have more functionality, for instance. Smart design makes this possible – by using components that can do more with less space.

Miniaturization can mean many things in connectivity. It means smaller versions of standard connectors, available because the standard footprint is not ideal anymore; it means connectors that fit a combination of multiple connection types into one unit; it means component shapes that use panel or device space efficiently; and it means more integrated features, like internal locking mechanisms that make connectors more space-efficient.

One of the keys to the future of connectivity is miniaturization, and HARTING offers many products that make excellent use of it. Examples include PushPull miniature connectors, the ix industrial Ethernet interface, and Han and Han-Modular connectors. HARTING products serve all levels of the automation pyramid, ranging from device to machine.
