Spiralock products are available from Gould Fasteners.

As a renowned fastener distributor in Canada, with products ranging from screws and bolts to electronic parts and military spec hardware, Gould Fasteners has access to the best fastener technology available today. Among the technologies available through Gould is the Spiralock threading system, by Stanley Engineered Fastening.

What is Spiralock?

First introduced in 1979, Spiralock is a unique pre-load fastening system. One of its main advantages is its strong resistance to loosening under transverse vibration, a common cause of joint failure. The Spiralock thread form outperforms traditional secondary locking methods such as prevailing torque, patches, adhesives, and lock washers.

Each Spiralock product adds a locking feature to internal (female) threads, which helps to stop thread from loosening while enabling the standard externally threaded parts to spin freely during assembly. The 30-degree wedge ramp at the root of the internal thread is specifically designed to engage when the joint starts to build clamp load during tightening. Then the crest of the standard external threads draws tightly against the wedge ramp. This reduces the radial clearance and makes a continual spiral contact line from the internal thread to the external one.

Spiralock fasteners, nuts, inserts, and machine threads can withstand extreme temperatures, long hours of operation, heavy shock and vibration, and millions of loading cycles with no need of retightening. Other benefits include improved joint integrity, a more evenly distributed load, and consistent reusability.

This system has been popular with engineers and manufacturers for nearly 40 years, due to the simple way it turns traditional threaded joints into reliable and safe design elements. Among the industry adopters of the Spiralock system is NASA, which uses it on its rocket engines. Spiralock has prevailed in thousands of applications because of the way it accepts standard male fasteners, makes secondary locking devices unnecessary, and decreases the chances of fatigue failure.

Spiralock technology is ideal for many industries, such as aerospace, electronics, trucking, agriculture, construction, oil and gas, the automotive sector, and the medical sector.
