Another customer satisfied by John Brooks Company

John Brooks Company Limited proves its credibility as a supplier of fluid-control solutions with a backlog of customer success stories. For example, a major steel and mining corporation saved $130,000 per year with a group of self-priming centrifugal pumps that boosted abrasion resistance in its rolling mill’s scale pits.

The mill achieved a 300 per cent increase in up-time and equipment lifespan with the Gorman-Rupp Model T10A60S-B, part of the Super T Series.

A far better investment

The customer made special-grade and merchant bars to reinforce steel bars and other semi-finished steel items at the mill. All water was sent back into a sump to minimize water consumption and reuse as much process water as possible in production. Screens separated the sump into different settling pits to stop solids from being pumped back into the system. Because the existing pumps in hardened metals kept failing, productivity was low, and replacing the pumps cost up to $35,000. The company turned to John Brooks Company for an alternative.

For a reliable, durable solution that could handle abrasive fluids, an application expert recommended the Model T10A60S-B. This pump is designed with a grey iron casing, and the John Brooks Company crew applied a two-component coating system to all wet components to improve erosion-corrosion resistance. A ceramic-filled epoxy, this coating boosted durability on wearing parts to accommodate high solid-loading slurry.

Other advantages of this pump series:

  • more efficiency for intermittent pumping, due to self-priming;
  • lower maintenance downtime with easy service;
  • replaceable wear components, so pumps do not need regular overhaul; and
  • component coating that can be re-applied.

The mill rented this pump for over a year with no failure, which alone made the Model T10A60S-B a far better investment than the older pumps were, as they had lasted only three-to-eight months. The previous pumps each cost from $28,000 to $35,000, while the new ones cost $35,000, but with a 92 per cent reduction in replacement expenses, with annual service costs of only about $10,000.
