Red-D-Arc rents out five types of generators.

Red-D-Arc Welderentals not only carries industrial welding equipment; it is the place to go for generator rental. Generators help companies source power during natural disasters and in regions without infrastructure. When a customer is trying to decide between renting and buying a generator, there are many factors to consider.

Here is some key advice from the Red-D-Arc team on these factors, from a recent blog entry.

A fraction of the cost

Some businesses buy generators to get tax benefits. But this requires ample capital and may result in additional debt. If a generator is not required for most operations, or the work covers multiple locations, it can be cumbersome to store and transport the unit. With generator rental, the user outsources the upfront costs and trouble of maintenance, storage, and transportation, and workers get convenient access to generators only when necessary, at a fraction of the cost. Another advantage: additional support services.

It is important to note that generators that produce cleaner energy are typically less efficient and more expensive. There are five main categories available for generator rental from Red-D-Arc:

  • Solar. With built-in batteries charged through solar panels and inverters that convert energy from 12 volts to AC power. Perfect for emergencies, but not ideal for powering entire buildings or commercial projects.
  • Gas. Great for commercial projects, but not as powerful as diesel engines. Gas generators rely on fossil fuels, and the gas puts extra stress on the engine. Users must maintain carburetors, spark plugs, and other parts.
  • Diesel. The most capable generator available, smaller than the gas option and with fewer components than the solar unit. Water-cooled diesel engines last a long time in the field without maintenance.
  • NG-LPG. This generator balances clean-burning fuel with efficiency. A great option for customers with cheap and constant access to natural gas and propane. Not the most fuel-efficient model, but fine for powering buildings and commercial projects and meeting sustainability goals.
  • Diesel-NG. High flexibility and low maintenance. Workers can meet sustainability goals by using natural gas, then switch to diesel for higher capacity.
