The HBM GEN4tB portable DAQ system

HBM Test and Measurement is a major manufacturer of data-acquisition (DAQ) systems, available via Durham Instruments. An impressive example is the GEN4tB portable DAQ system – a distributable, standalone device that grows with user needs. It offers four slots for acquisition cards and can expand to up to 32 channels in a small, compact form factor. Its extended temperature range makes it ideal for use in hot or cold environments.

With unique streaming capabilities

A versatile device, this portable DAQ system is usable for many applications with different input cards. Durham Instruments recommends it for use in general manufacturing, aerospace, automation, education, the military, power generation, alternative energy, transportation, and research and development.

The GEN4tB also offers unique streaming capabilities that enable recording of information to the optional, embedded SSD at up to 350 megabytes per second (MB/s), or to a PC at 100 or 400 MB/s, depending on the Ethernet interface. It comes with free Perception standard software, which users can install on multiple PCs to control systems and review acquired data.

Relevant applications for this portable DAQ system:

  • With basic input cards: recording voltages, or vibrations with IEPE transducers, with up to 32 channels at the same time at up to two mega-samples per second (MS/s).
  • With 1½-kilovolt power analyzer cards: These turn the GEN4tB into a powerful 12-channel power analyzer that provides best-in-class accuracy and dynamic measurement capabilities.
  • With a universal input card: material testing, with as many as 32 physical sensors, such as strain gauges, IEPE sensors, or thermocouples using sample rates of up to 500 kilo-samples per second.
  • With 250-MS/s input cards: ultra-fast voltage or strain-gauge measurement, like “Split-Hopkinson bar”, or using fibre optic digitizers in a real high-voltage/high-power environment.

This DAQ system has a powerful mainframe; it can be mounted on bench tops or racks and is compatible with an RJ45 connector or optical Ethernet PC connection. It also works with PTPv2, GPS, and IRIG time synching, optical Master/Slave connection, and EtherCAT and CAN FD interfaces.

The GEN4tB offers the highest streaming rate on the market.
